What to do?
- Make a plan
- Purchase canned or wrapped goods
- Get a first-aid kit
- Have containers with a lid to store water
- Torches, portable radios, matches, candles, etc must be kept handy
- Secure valuable documents
- Spot the closest haven and comply with local authorities
During the storm:
- Take notice of the weather forecast issued by local authorities
- Cut off the electric current main source and close manual valves of all gas tanks
- Stay away from the beach and keep your distance from windy areas
- Stay until local authorities allow you to come out and the danger is over.
- Be cautious of the eye or inner core of the storm. The weather in the eye is relatively calm and cloud-free for a while and it’s best to stay home until winds become stronger and blow in the opposite direction.
After the storm:
- Reenter the devastated area upon local authority authorization
- If there are any seriously injured people, do not move or touch them and report them to the local authority
- Avoid touching cable wires, and be careful with fences, houses and buildings that are at risk of collapsing.
